Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in 882 Days
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
The win also means he has achieved 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The pair traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet saved 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
